No Ah-Nold in Avatar 2

When it comes to rumors on the internet, we’ve always loved the Mark Twain line about how a lie can travel half-way around the world before the truth gets its boots on. Remember the Christian Bale rumor he could make a potential $50 million to play Batman again? Nothing but speculation that got out of hand in a hurry.

So when Collider and Playlist ran a rumor that Arnold Schwarzenegger could be in Avatar 2, we were going to tell the loyal readers of TGD to take it with a grain of salt, but this rumor got quickly debunked by the powers that be. The story went that Ah-nold would play be a villain this time, and Latino Review reported it would be “a bad guy human general.”

Yet as Variety tells us, Fox shot this rumor not long after it got out, responding with a simple “no truth to this.”

We didn’t even realize this until Playlist pointed it out, but Ah-nold and James Cameron haven’t worked together in almost twenty years. It’s a trip to just realize this, but he last thing they did together was 1994’s True Lies. Yet a reunion on Avatar 2 is just not to be. (If we at TGD recall correctly, when Avatar was first being conceived back in the ‘90’s, Arnold was supposed to play the lead.)

While we’re not sure he could still play a convincing bad guy, we don’t think Cameron would do something as foolish as cast him just for the humor of it, especially if the villain has to be a real a-hole.
