Hope still burns for Firefly

We’re not trying to get anyone’s hopes up here, but we’re not the only ones who would love to see Firefly back one day.

At the top of the list of course is Joss Whedon, and he’s publically said he’d love to return to his beloved sci-fi epic, just as soon as he gets Avengers 2 off his desk.

Even if it takes some years, the fans should be there for it for sure, and a new generation of fans should be there for it as well. The cult of Firefly continues to grow, and we at TG are amazed that a show that lasted fourteen episodes still has such a strong following. It’s a lot like the cult around Star Trek, except Trek obviously lasted longer than just a single season.

Recently several of the cast members have talked about the yearnings to return to Firefly as well. As Giant Freakin Robot reports, Adam Baldwin said, “I don’t know if he’s [Whedon] just dangling a carrot out there for fun. I know he truly believes that there are so many hurdles that seem insurmountable at this point, but it’s fun to dream. I think we would all jump at the chance to redo it.”

Alan Tudyk, who played Wash, also recently said, “Not only is there a want from fans, but there’s a want from Joss, and from Nathan [Fillion], certainly, and the cast.”

Tudyk mentioned that Arrested Development got resurrected through Netflix. “This was taken off the air right about the same time that we were and that was a show that was on Fox, with a bunch of people who have gone on to do many other things, and they’re getting them back together for another 14 episodes. So it can be done.”

As Robot tells us, there’s also been talk of an animated Firefly series, which could be interesting, and maybe after Avengers 2 Whedon could return to Firefly, which means we may have to wait until near the end of the decade, but you never know.
