Video: Decay zombie film shot at the Large Hadron Collider

A new zombie movie titled  Decay was recently filmed by physics students at the Large Hadron Collider.

This isn’t one of those short fan made movies that only lasts a few minutes, but rather, nearly a full production length film spanning a total of 76 minutes.

You can watch the complete film on YouTube, which we’ve embedded above. Alternatively, you can download the movie from the official website. From the portions of the film I watched, the setting in some of the publicly viewable areas of the LHC seems to be the most interesting part of the whole project.

The acting is clearly B-grade, but the environment is cool. The zombies are also rather un-zombie-like, at least in terms of what we are used from shows like The Walking Dead. Interestingly, CERN had no official involvement in the movie but stated that Decay “shows the pure science can stimulate creativity.”

The movie was created by physics PhD students and is available online under the Creative Commons license. If you don’t have time to sit through the entire film, you can check out the trailer, which is also embedded above. The basic premise of the film? A number of people are caught inside the Collider while it’s in operation and  somehow turned into zombies.

The official description for the film on YouTube reads, “Trapped underground at the world’s largest particle accelerator, a group of students make a deadly discovery.”
