Unplugging: The lineups of Fall and Winter fests

As summer comes to a close and the summer music festivals start to wind down, concert attendees begin to look forward to artists fall and winter tour dates.

Finishing the summer season, the iTunes Festival will take place in London until September 30th and is slated to feature over 60 artists in 30 nights. Fellow Londoners, Muse, have announced that they will perform as a part of the festival. In anticipation of theirupcoming album, The 2nd Law, the band will close out the festival on its last night.

Starting on October 4th, the Culture Collide music festival will occupy the area of Echo Park until October 7th. However, the partnering of Filter Magazine and Virgin America Airways has resulted in “I’m With the Band.” This cross-country flight not only includes a four-day wristband to the festival and access to festival giveaways, but also includes in-flight DJ sets from artists performing at Culture Collide. To sign up for this luxurious flight, book flight 409 on Wednesday, October 3rd on Virgin American Airways. The JFK to LAX flight departs on October 3rd at 11:30am. Participating artists at the festival include Of Montreal, Zola Jesus, The

Wombats, and The Big Pink.

Shortly following the Culture Collide music festival, the OohLaLa! Festival kicks off in Los Angeles on October 11th. Presented by Goldenvoice and KCRW, OohLaLa! showcases up-and-coming artists from France and features artists like House de Racket, Nouvelle Vague, and Chocolate Genius. OohLaLa! Festival will settle in Los Angeles over three nights. The El Rey, Club Nokia, and the Satellite serve as the Los Angeles venues for the festival. After the launch, the festival will travel to Montreal, Canada and New York City.

Electronic dance music artists Skrillex and Pretty Lights are putting their knowledge of music together in order to curate a festival of their own.

Set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, With Your Friends Festival is a two day fest that starts at 4:00PM and runs for seven hours. Running October 26th and October 27th, the festival lineup includes Nas, Santigold, Dillon Francis, 12th Planet, TOKiMONSTA, and Michel Menert, along with Skrillex and Pretty Lights. Because the festival starts in the evening, the With Your Friends Festival website has provided a list of how to occupy your time before the festival even begins.

Across the seas, Australian music festival Soundwave has announced their second lineup. Set to take place in February 2013, the music festival’s second announcement includes rock bands like Slayer, Cypress Hill, and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Their first announcement included other major names in rock like Metallica, Linkin Park, Blink-182, and The Offspring.  With major names like these, Soundwave might just be one of the best rock shows of 2013.

In Texas, Austin City Council has recently approved for music festival Austin City Limits to add two weekends to their itinerary for 2013. With the approval of promoter C3 Presents, the festival would occur October 4-6 and October 11-13. Of course, with expansion of the weekends comes with increasing of funds. Just because the summer ends, does not mean the music ends. With festivals revealing these bang-up lineups, it’s going to be difficult for concert attendees to kick their concert-going habits.
