State of Decay zombie FPS stalks the Xbox 360

Zombie movies and TV shows have been around for quite some time, but the undead craze has only lately hit the gaming space.

One of the first major zombie themed games was The Walking Dead, followed by the wildly popular zombie mod for Arma, DayZ. The mod is so successful that DayZ will be made a standalone zombie video game. And now another open world zombie shooter – dubbed State of Decay – is on its way to the Xbox 360.

Fittingly, it’s being made by a developer called Undead Labs. As you may recall, the game was first announced in 2011 as a Xbox Live Arcade exclusive title originally titled “Class 3.” The game is described as an “ambitious zombie-survival open world game” that “will let you put your personal survival plan to the test.”

Perhaps the most interesting description offered for State of Decay is that you can “move through the world like a zombie-slaying badass.” Yeah, that’s the zombie game I want to play.

The studio says the game will allow players to: “Dive through windows, jump on cars, and take it to the living dead with baseball bats. Hop in a truck and mow down some undead pedestrians. Break into the local police station and clear out their arsenal or walk into the local grocery store to stock up on your favourite junk food. The world is your oyster…a shiny oyster that happens to be filled with zombies.”

According to the developers, the undead infested open world changes and develops according to the decisions of the player. Check out the trailer for the game above and see what you think. Personally, I’m glad to see the zombies in this game are quick moving and agile, rather than slow and lumbering.
