A closer look at Sony’s All Stars Battle Royale

Sony is showcasing its All Stars Battle Royale game at E3 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

The game offers Cross Play support, meaning, players on different consoles, such as the PS3 and PSP, can compete against each other locally and across a network.

Obviously, I know I’m not the only gamer who’s long wished they could thrash it out with opponents on different platforms. True, I obviously would prefer to see PC versus PS3 versus Xbox, but at least you can compete in Battle Royale on both the Vita and PS3.

Along with talking about the full Cross Play support for All Stars Battle Royale, Sony also announced two new characters to the game’s lineup, including Nathan Drake from Uncharted and Big Daddy from BioShock. Personally, I love BioShock and out of all the bad guys, the Big Daddy is my favorite. The characters should add an interesting wrinkle to the fighting elements in the game.

Sony says one of the things that allows the full Cross Play support for the game is the fact that both the PS3 and the PS Vita versions of the video game are identical – at least as far as game play and a 60 frames per second speed.

As expected, PS Vita players will be able to use both the front touchscreen and the rear touchpad to control the game. Will full Cross Play support make you more likely to purchase a PS Vita? Personally, I think Cross Play is one of the few compelling reasons to own Sony’s new portable.
