These Star Trek captains are on the bridge

What is one of the oldest geek arguments of modern Star Trek lore? Naming your favorite captain of the Enterprise, of course!

Now most old school fans of the original series – somewhat understandably – believe Captain Kirk is the man, while Trekkies who started watching the franchise in the 80s or 90s tend to prefer Picard.

Frankly, I’m more of a Picard fan myself, as I find the original 60’s series far too cheesy with Shatner’s particular style of acting. However, I did grow up watching the Star Trek films with the original television series cast and liked them all.

If you’re conflicted and can’t decide who your favorite Star Trek Captain is, well, you don’t have to worry about that if you are buying tickets for a London event dubbed Destination Star Trek London.

The show will kick off in October – running from the 19th to the 21st with tickets going on sale April 30.

The big draw to this Star Trek event is that all five captains from the Star Trek franchise will be on hand.

I was never a fan of some of the Trek TV series that appeared after The Next Generation (TNG), so some of these captains are relatively unknown to me.

On hand for the event will be William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Avery Brooks (Commander Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer). It’s interesting that Scott Bakula will be there since he is more known in my mind for Quantum Leap.

“The ‘Star Trek’ fan base in the UK is one of the biggest in the world, and it has waited a long time for the convention to return, so we wanted to make sure we did it right,” said Liz Kalodner, general manger of CBS Consumer Products.

I’ve seen William Shatner on other programs over the years, most recently on episodes of Psych. It’s really hard to believe he’s now 81 years old and, yes, still enjoys overacting as much as he did years ago.
