Seth MacFarlane is resurrecting Bedrock

It somehow makes sense that Seth MacFarlane will be bringing back The Flintstones.

Obviously when rebooting a classic, even if it’s a cartoon, logic would dictate you’d want someone young and hip to give it some edge, and make it cooler for today’s audiences, or so you hope.

The Flintstones clearly doesn’t have to be that modern taking place in the stone age, and it was really a take off on the classic comedy The Honeymooners, so if it stays more old school in humor, I doubt anyone’s going to complain.

And funny enough, considering how  much little kids love it, people forget that The Flintstones was once a prime time show. So of course, it’s coming back, and its futuristic rival The Jetsons is still in development for a future movie, and Family Guy mastermind Seth MacFarlane will be resurrecting Fred and Barney and Wilma and Betty.

MacFarlane talked about the Flintstones at South By Southwest, and as Entertainment Weekly reports, he told audiences the show is “still in the early stages. I’m finishing a rewrite on the pilot. We’re trying to, essentially, stay true to what that show is. There’s something cool tome about, in 2013, turning on your TV and seeing The Flintstones and having it look like The Flintstones.”

Knowing he’s going back over a classic, MacFarlane said, “We kind of want to keep it more or less the same. The stories that we tell will be a little more current.”

MacFarlane also told the Onion, “We’re kind of shooting for  the level of edge in mid-’90s Simpsons – you’re not going to see abortion jokes,” and he also told The Huffington Post that taking over The Flintstones is similar to “being handed the keys to a very old expensive car. You want to be careful not to be Ferris Bueller with it.”
