Vin Diesel has posted a number of new images shot on the appropriately gritty set of the latest Riddick film.
The latest chapter in the franchise continues the popular space saga that kicked off with Pitch Black (2000) and The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004.
The film opens with the protagonist – a wanted convict – being left for dead on a hostile, sun-scorched planet. However, Riddick is very much alive and soon finds himself fighting for survival against deadly alien predators, one of which you can see here.
The only way off the desolate rock is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon, alerting mercenaries who descend on the planet in search of their lucrative bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of mercenary bounty hunter, more lethal and violent than previously encountered by Riddick. Yes, they definitely look like a scruffy bunch, although the female mercenary, played by the sultry Katee Sackhoff (aka Starbuck of BSG) could definitely turn a few heads in any bar on any planet.
In addition to Vin Diesel, the film stars Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy) as Vaako, and introduces Santana, the captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns; Katee Sackhoff (TV’s Battlestar Galactica) as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall reboot) as bounty hunter Moss.
The upcoming sci-fi thriller is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
