New Prometheus trailer is hostile

Ridley Scott has released a new international trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Prometheus.

Although the film is (somewhat understandably) under lockdown to prevent leaks, the latest promo does provide us with a few important seconds of new footage.

For example, the ensemble cast is highlighted, which includes Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Patrick Wilson and Guy Pearce.

There is also a shot depicting a hostile landscape the explorers are forced to traverse – seemingly under fire – as they navigate the terrain of a planet which is reminiscent of the original Alien

It’s clearly going to be some time before we see exactly what Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is all about, but in the meantime we can content ourselves with the fact that veteran Hollywood screenwriter Damon Lindelof assures us the film will be nothing short of “epic.”

Plus, Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) seems to have endorsed the new film, along with Ridley Scott’s involvement in Prometheus, saying it takes the franchise where she always wanted previous Alien films to go.

“Fox and I disagreed on how the [movies] should continue. But I’m glad it’s Ridley Scott doing it, and I’ll be as curious as anyone, or maybe more curious, to see it [because] I think he took my suggestion,” Weaver explained during a recent interview.

“Fox wanted to go to earth and I said: ‘That’s so boring. Who wants to see aliens on earth?’ I said ‘go back to the [original] planet [depicted in Alien]’.”

Prometheus, which explores its own mythology and is not directly linked to Alien, will hit theaters on June 8, 2012 via 20th Century Fox. Prometheus is directed by Ridley Scott and written by Jon Spaihts, along with Damon Lindelof.
