Pac-Man joins Street Fighter. Say what?

Although Pac-Man and Street Fighter are two of the most iconic video game franchises of all time, we never really envisioned a world where their paths would cross.

And yet, here we are, as it has just been announced that Pac-Man will be a playable character in Street Fighter X Tekken, one of the most hotly anticipated fighting games in the pipeline.

The fighting game genre has been known for interesting character mash-ups, such as Zelda’s Link appearing in Soul Calibur and Metal Gear Solid hero Snake making an appearance in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

But we’d have to say bringing Pac-Man into the storied worlds of Street Fighter and Tekken probably takes the cake. There have been no specific details about how he’ll compete in battle, and we haven’t seen a video of the action just yet.

The Pac-Man news came alongside the announcement of another character – Mega Man. Almost equally as cool and weird at the same time, Mega Man will appear in his classic form, making for what will be very interesting battles.

There is one caveat to all this, however. Both Pac-Man and Mega Man will only appear in the PS3 and Playstation Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken. In a world where the Xbox 360 gets so much exclusive content, Sony has managed to snag this little surprise.

Street Fighter X Tekken is due out on March 6.
