Upside Down clip hits the mountain (and Kirsten Dunst)

Studio 37 has released a clip for its upcoming sci-fi romance.

Upside Down is a classic story of Starcrossed lovers. Adam and Eve are from two very different worlds, with the latter hailing from another world, one which is far more prosperous than Adam’s world, and which hangs upside down in the sky above his head. The two meet as children, and spend their lives in secret, seeking a way to one day be together. As expected, both worlds resist their controversial union, and soon it is the two of them against just about everyone else. The allegory is baseball-bat clear, of course, as is the story’s connection to the Bard.

The film has been riding the indie circuit for a time already, but now is ready for a theatrical release. As part of the announcement, the studio has put out this clip from the film, which shows the physical difficulty – and physics – that the lovers face.

Even from just this brief clip, Kirsten Dunst is perfect in this role, bringing her ability to create an emotionally wrought character without causing her to appear sappy or pathetic. Nearly any one else playing such a role would be less than compelling, even annoying. We can get an even better look at the film last year’s full-length trailer:

In addition to Dunst, Upside Down stars Jim Sturgess and Jayne Heitmeyer under the direction of Juan Diego Solanas, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on March 15, 2013.
