New Super Mario Bros 2 DLC comes 10/4

It is truly a new age in the world of Nintendo gaming. In just a matter of a couple weeks, a new Mario game is getting additional content that users can download directly from their portable game system.

This is the kind of thing that has been commonplace on other platforms for years, but Nintendo has been very noticeably behind the curve when it comes to online integration with its titles.

It is finally starting to catch up, though, and the fact that New Super Mario Bros 2 for the 3DS is already getting premium add-on content shows that the company has at least partially come to terms with the changing face of the industry.

As part of the new downloadable content, players are able to engage in one of three new missions. The Gold Rush Pack presents players with the goal of collection as many coins as possible — up to 30,000. The Coin Challenge Pack A, meanwhile, is all about racking up points.

The latter also gives players the ability to upload their high scores to the official New Super Mario Bros 2 website, another sign of Mario making his way to 21st century gaming.

Finally, a third DLC pack called the Nerve-Wrack Pack is for the most ardent Mario fans. It is billed as the toughest Mario challenge to date, and it certainly is not for the faint of heart.

Each piece of DLC will be priced at $2.50. Although specific details of new Super Mario Bros 2 DLC has not been revealed, Nintendo is expected to continue to support the game for future micro-transactions. Additional content is already slated between now and November.
