Marvel digital comics hit Apple’s iBookstore

Personally, I’ve enjoyed most of the movies that have been adapted from various Marvel comic book lines.

Growing up I was a huge fan of the cartoons based on superhero characters, but I’ve never really been a reader of graphic novels or comic books. But times have obviously changed, and we are certainly light years away from the days of unread comics books turning yellow in the basement.

So if you are a big fan of graphic novels, you’ll be glad to learn that 80 of Marvel’s most popular graphic novels/comics are now available on Apple’s iBookstore.

The digital graphic novels/comic books are supported on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Most feature Marvel comic book characters, but there is other content as well, including Pride and Prejudice and Castle: Richard Castle’s Deadly Storm.

Of course, the list of over 80 titles is just beginning, as new graphic novels will be added each week to the lineup. If you’re not sure about the new format and want to see what they look like on the small iPhone or iPod Touch screen, Marvel has a free offering that you can download and try out: New Avengers Vol. 1: Breakout.

“Marvel is taking the world of comics by storm and releasing a massive selection of our best and brightest graphic novels on the iBookstore,” explained Peter Phillips, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Marvel Digital Media Group.

“For the first time ever, fans will be able to easily find and enjoy all of their favorite heroes including The Avengers, Spider-Man and The X-Men on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch — one of the best digital platforms for reading comics and graphic novels.”

It’s worth noting that one commenter on Marvel.com says that the graphic novels (currently) lack zoom and a single page display. I wonder how easy these will be to read on the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you’re a fan of graphic novels, be sure and let us know what you think.
