The Watch trailer goes live

20th Century Fox has released the first full-length trailer for its upcoming comedy sci-fi, The Watch.

The film covers the antics of an unlikely band of rather goofy guys who stumble upon plans for an alien invasion, and attempt to take matters into their own hands. The trailer is for mature audiences only, mostly due to lots of swearing.

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this one. It looks far too silly in the trailer, which is likely targeted at the Jackass crowd.

Plus, the cast gives me pause. I like Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn, but Ben Stiller has ruined more than one film for me with his neurotic over-playing.

However, there is a chance, no matter how slim, that there is some great, fun science fiction buried somewhere in this film, but we haven’t been shown anything like that yet. I’ll probably wait to see a couple more trailers before I really give this one any serious thought.

The official synopsis of the film is thus:

The Watch is about a suburban “neighborhood watch” group that serves as a front for dads to get some male-bonding time away from their families. The group finds itself in over its head when it uncovers a plot to destroy the world.

The Watch hits theaters on July 27th.
