Game of Thrones trailer has no loyalties

The third trailer for the second season of Game of Thrones focuses on the complex familial and romantic relationships which will dominate the season, with a particular focus on the strong women of the story along with some new footage.

Particularly telling is the line from Cersei as the trailer fades to black: “The more people you love, the weaker you are.”

It’s very telling as  one of the major themes of the upcoming episodes.

The second season primarily covers the events depicted in the second book of Song of Ice and Fire, a still-unfinished fantasy series by George R. R. Martin, which sees the dispersal of the Starks around the seven kingdoms, and the machinations of all the hopefuls for the throne getting more complicated. The Dragons are growing larger, and we’ll start to see our first signs of the magic that this world holds – if it sticks to the book, we’ll get our first taste in the very first scene.

It’s great to keep getting seeing these cinematic style trailers, which seem to be preparing us for a major blockbuster film release, rather than a televised drama. Frankly, it’s almost too bad we can’t go to the theater to see the episode each Sunday. I’d definitely pay $5/week for the privilege.

Game of Thrones season 2 kicks off on April 1, 2012, and will air each Sunday for ten episodes. The first season is currently being replayed on Sunday evenings. HBO subscribers can also catch up on the HBO Go website.
