Spielberg talks Robopocalypse

Steven Spielberg has been quite busy lately and one really can’t help but wonder how he finds the time for all of his projects.

The legendary director recently

spoke at a press conference in Paris this week

, while promoting his latest film,

War Horse

.

When asked about Jurassic Park 4, he indicated that he won’t be directing the new film, despite being asked by the studio. He will be producing the film, but the helm will go to someone else.

Which films have trumped the dinosaur franchise? Next up for Spielberg, now that War Horse is in the books, is Lincoln, a biography feature for which the shooting is finished. When the editing for that film is done: Robopocalypse.

“I’m making a science fiction movie probably in September called Robopocalypse based on Daniel Wilson’s book,” he said.

“It’s a cautionary tale about war between human beings and robots. It’s a big crowd pleaser, I think, a big action popcorn movie with a message.

“The message is actually in the popcorn!” he joked with the reporters. “You have to get the popcorn, dig down deep in the bottom and they’ll be a message about what Robopocalypse is really about! And I have a couple of other plans which I don’t want to go into because they’re too far out of the horizon. But there’s a lot of work ahead, a lot of television my company is producing for some of the networks and some of the cable outlets. So I’m busy!”

He won’t be working on the second Adventures of Tintin film because of his schedule, but hopes to work on the third when it’s time. When asked, Spielberg chose not to reveal what he knows about the second film, as it’s not public knowledge yet, so all we know is that it will be based on a couple more Herge books.

“The script is now being written,” he revealed. “It’s [an adaptation of] two and a half [Herge] books that we’re combining with The Secret of the Unicorn. And Peter will start working on the film this year. When he’s done shooting The Hobbit, he’ll begin his performance capture work with the actors later in 2012, which I’m very excited about. And of course, I’m hoping I’ll be able to direct the third one. I’d love to do the third one because I had so much fun on the first one.”

Jurassic Park 4, Robopocalypse, and the unnamed Tintin sequel are all still in development, and have no announced production or release dates. Lincoln will be out for the 2012 holiday season.
