How to Clean an E-Cigarette E-Liquid Tank in Six Easy Steps

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CLEAN YOUR VAPE TANK?

Cleaning your tank is important, simply because similar to any technology or frequently used items, over time it will become dirty and will not be working to its full capacity due to overuse. There are a couple ways to tell if your tank needs to be cleaned.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY TANK NEEDS TO BE CLEANED?

One way you can tell your tank needs to be cleaned is if the liquid is starting to turn a brown colour, rather than the original colour that your liquid is, this means you need to change your coil. Cleaning your tank at this time is optimum to clear out any old burnt liquid taste.

The ecigarette has e-liquid residue on it, and the tank or the mod are wet.

The vapour has a burnt flavour, or there is black gunk inside of it.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY TANK?

Your tank should be cleaned on a regular business to keep it working at its highest efficiency, and the coil should be changed on a regular basis, usually between 2-4 weeks; this will vary from person to person.

DOES MY TANK NEED TO BE REPLACED OR CLEANED?

Most tanks need cleaning and the coils need to be changed, while some tanks are disposable and need to be replaced. If your electronic cigarette is tasting burnt, there is a high possibility that your coil needs to be changed, and your tank needs to be cleaned. Some electronic cigarettes in Canada (usually pen style vaporizers) have replaceable tanks, and have no replaceable coils. This is a more expensive alternative to simply replacing the coil in your tank, which varies in price, and can be purchased at any vape shop in Toronto. If you are unsure whether or not your electronic cigarette has replaceable coils or a replaceable tank be sure to go ask about your ecigarette at a vape shop in Toronto.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN YOUR ECIGARETTE TANK

1. SHUT OFF BATTERY

This varies for every ecigarette, but typically this is accomplished by clicking the fire button 5 times. If you are unsure about this step, contact your local vape shop, or google your cigarette online for any information you are unsure of.

2. TAKE THE ECIGARETTE APART

The disassembly of your electronic cigarette is a key step in this process, to ensure you have separated any electrical parts from the parts which can be cleaned. First remove the tank from the battery. After the tank is separate, you will want to disassemble the glass from the rest of the tank, so you can easily wash and dry all parts of the tank. Additionally, be sure to remove your drip tip from the top of the tank, this can often collect residue as well, from spit-back. You will want to wash this separately being careful that you don’t lose the small gasket that allows it to fit tightly in the sink drain.

3. GET THE PROPER CLEANING MATERIALS

There are many ways to clean a tank, but make sure you have all the appropriate cleaning products to thoroughly clean your tank. You’ll most likely need Q-Tips, paper towel, Isopropyl alcohol (99%) and a sink!

4. CLEANING THE TANK

The first step of cleaning your tank is thoroughly cleaning all pieces with the alcohol, and making sure residue is wiped off with the paper towel. Use the Q-tips for any hard to reach spots in your tank, like the drip tip. You can also use a Q-tip to clean inside the airflow, which can get dirty if your tank has been leaking. It is VERY important to ensure once you have used the isopropyl alcohol to clean your electronic cigarette, that you thoroughly wash your tank (all pieces) with hot water, so you are not vaporizing with alcohol in your tank. You may want to run the pieces under the water for a couple minutes each, and use the Q-tips and paper towel to ensure all the alcohol is off, and the tank is completely dry. If you prefer not to use isopropyl alcohol, you can also use only hot water, or hot water and soap. Using plain hot water is the easiest way to clean your tank, but not necessarily the most thorough.

If needed, you might also want to change your coil during this process, if you have completely cleaned your tank and you put an old burnt coil back into your tank, all the work you just did will be wasted.

5. CLEANING THE MOD

This step is important to be careful, as your mod has electrical aspects to it and cannot be cleaned using water or alcohol. Using a slightly damp paper towel, you can wipe off the outside of your electronic cigarette. After this step make sure you thoroughly dry your electronic cigarette off with paper towel before using it again. You may also want to use a dry Q-tip to clean inside the thread where the pin from the tank and the mod connect.

6. REASSEMBLE YOUR VAPE

After the cleaning process is complete, you will want to completely reassemble your tank, including the new coil if applicable. Attach your tank back onto your mod, and insert batteries if needed. After this process is complete, you can turn your electronic cigarette back on, and fill the tank with your favourite fresh e-liquid!

TIPS

1. If you are soaking your tank in water, make sure to use your sink stopper to avoid losing parts of your ecigarette, including O-rings (vape bands that protect your glass), or your drip tip down the drain

2. Install a new atomizer head after cleaning- it is usually a good idea to install a new coil in your tank once you have cleaned the entire electronic cigarette out, so that your whole setup is as good as new!

3. Be gentle, most electronic cigarettes are relatively durable, but you don’t want to overdo it to the point of damaging your mod or tank.
