Joss Whedon Leaves the Marvel Universe For a Bit

Joss Whedon is now about two weeks away from a ginormous success with The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and while there’s no official reviews just yet, the early reaction in the Twittersphere is very positive so far.

There was a scary moment when Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t singed up for the next Avengers flick, but you can’t do The Avengers without him, and Joss Whedon is a crucial element as well. But Whedon won’t be back for the next Avengers films, they’ll be helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed Captain America, and Joss told Collider he’ll be taking a break from Marvel for a bit.

“I’m definitely going to take a real break for a couple of months because my brian is no longer,” Whedon said. “I love these movies; they’re exciting. But part of me does think, ‘You know what? I got to find out what’s next.’”

Which of course begs the fanboy question, will Whedon come back to Firefly one of these days? Now that he’s got The Avengers off his desk, it would be great if he revisited that one again. But for right now, “I have no idea I’m going to do next. It’s a nice feeling.”
