With HP-Palm deal finished, a WebOS tablet confirmed

On the heels of announcing that it had dotted all the I’s and crossed all the T’s on its buyout of Palm, HP confirmed that its upcoming Slate media tablet will run on Palm’s WebOS operating system.

The HP Slate was first introduced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in January, but at the time it was to run with a tablet version of Windows 7.

That was before HP decided to buy Palm. That event happened in April, and within the shuffle, many suggested that the Slate had been completely shelved.

However, reports are circulating that HP has now dusted it off and reworked it to incorporate the WebOS platform, the most valuable part of the Palm buyout.

HP also plans to use Palm’s mobile operating system for a future line of phones and mobile computers, a market that it has largely neglected until now.
