After being called “a**holes,” the Winklevoss twins have written an amazingly long response to the president of Harvard.
Larry Summers spoke at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference this week, where he talked about all manner of subjects, not the least of which was how his students were the subject of the blockbuster movie The Social Network.
Summers himself was portrayed in the flick as a rather arrogant and uncaring man, especially when the Winklevoss twins went to him for help.
But, he said, “One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they’re looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an a**hole.”
He added, “Rarely have I encountered such swagger, and I tried to respond in kind.”
Well it looks like the Winklevoss twins, who can just sit at home and write letters all day since they got $65 million for doing practically nothing, weren’t happy with Summers’s comments. The two must have spent all day whining to each other as they wrote a response and posted in online.
“We now further understand why our meeting [with Summers] was less than productive; someone who does not value ethics with respect to his own conduct, would likely have little interest in this subject as it related to the conduct of others,” the twins wrote. “It is deeply disturbing that a professor of this university openly admit to making character judgments of students based on their appearance.”
Well cry me a river. If I were in the shoes of the Winklevoss twins, I’d be pretty happy with the fact that Mark Zuckerberg took my tiny little idea and grew it into a huge empire, and I did nothing but get to live like a king for the rest of my life. But hey, to each his own.
