The Energi 2K: a wall charger that is also an extra battery

The TYLT Energi Travel Charger 2K was designed to replace your standard wall charger and keep you charged all day and night no matter where you are.

TYLT has made quite a name for itself on Kickstarter with innovative products and crowdfunding campaigns that are driven by actually getting real products into funders hands. With the Energi 2K, the company is offering you a chance to be a part of a very cool new product development cycle.

The 2K plus into your wall acts like a normal USB wall charger. Right size. Nice design. Some groovy colors. You can charge any device that charges via standard USB…Smartphones, Tablets, etc.   The Intelligent Charging Technology prioritizes the charge to your device until your device is fully charged.

Then, it goes one better than your standard charger because it then charges the 2200mAh battery integrated into the wall charger.  When you need it just unplug the 2K from the wall, fold down the collapsible plug and take it with you…to school, to work, on a train, on a plane, to a game, anywhere, even your couch.  Now you can charge your phone anywhere while using it.

TYLT has been in development on this project for more than two years and they think they have found the right balance of cost, capacity and size. They have also identified a manufacturer in China with the appropriate experience in both AC chargers and rechargeable batteries. They want to raise funding to complete tooling and get the required certifications. TYLT has also been successful on previous Kickstarter campaigns so they firmly believe that they can deliver on time and continue to build a loyal following for TYLT.

Here’s where we like the TYLT approach. For a $20 commitment, you get a charger in your choice of color. The charger is expected to retail for $39.99. This is the way we like to see Kickstarter campaigns evolve: people who know what they are doing, they are going to give you a shot at helping them build a product you will probably want anyhow, and you get the product as soon as you help them get it off the ground.

We like the approach. And we really like the product. Getting an extra batter pack or charge unit can be very expensive. TYLT is just putting all of that power into a wall charging unit, which you would need and have to carry around irrespective of anything else. And at $39.99 retail, it is about right.
