A Sony factory that assembles and ships Bravia LCD TVs to North America has been snapped up by Taiwanese megamanufacturer Hon Hai.
The factory is based just across the US border in Tijuana, Mexico and employs 3,300 workers. Hon Hai will buy 90 percent of the factory while Sony will keep 10 percent.
According to the Taipei Times, the move could signal that Sony might eventually withdraw from the TV business. Sony has plans to outsource more of its production, the report continued.
Hon Hai, which is also known as Foxconn, has beat the credit crunch and earlier this week turned in a net profit up 27 percent from a year earlier.
