Nokia employees go on strike

Finland - Thousands of Nokia employees will go on strike this afternoon in two of the company's Finland locations. Up to 8500 workers at the Tampere and Oulu offices will begin striking at 2 P.M to protest recent layoffs. Nokia recently announced that it was laying off up to 700 people.

The strikers are mainly unionized administrative staff and they plan on returning to work on Monday. The unions are not planning any future actions, which makes this walk-out more symbolic rather than substantive.

Nokia employs nearly 24,000 people in Finland and 68,000 worldwide.
