Culver City (CA) - AOL is now attaching short text advertisements to the bottom of its emails. The ads are appearing on emails sent with AOL 9.0 software which is available for both monthly subscribers and for free. Currently the ads tout AOL's free services, but other products could be displayed in the future.
AOL is trying to generate additional revenue after it moved away from its traditional monthly subscription model. Last year, the company began offering a free email and browser service in its AOL software suite.
Users of AOL's web-based mail service have been seeing advertisements for several months. Other webmail providers like Google's Gmail also contain ads.
