Tickets for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) have sold out already, within hours of going on sale.
The conference will take place at san Francisco’s Moscone West between June 6 and 10. The company’s planning some major announcements, presumably the reason for the rush to buy tickets at $1,599 a throw.
Last year’s event sold out in eight days – a record at the time, but postitively sluggish compared to this year’s 12 hours.
“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” says Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.”
It’s a bit of a change for Apple, which has in the past tended to announce new software in the spring, for a summer release, and may have implications for the timing of future product releases.
At the conference, the company’s promising over 100 technical sessions designed to help developers develop and integrate the latest iOS and Mac OS technologies.
There’s a big focus on Mac OS Lion, the company’s upcoming desktop operating system, and Apple says developers can even bring their code along for Apple engineers to give it the once-over and hopefully enhance their apps.
Gaming appears to be an increasing focus for Apple, which is stressing the potential of iOS and Mac OS X.
“See how your apps can harness a layered set of graphics frameworks to create accelerated 3D rendering, rich 2D drawing, dynamic animations, and image effects. Dive deep into the powerful capabilities of OpenGL, OpenGL ES, and OpenCL, and gain insights into the expert techniques and profiling tools used to attain maximum performance,” promises the company.
“Learn how technologies like Game Center can dramatically enhance the gameplay experience of your iOS titles and find out how the best games take full advantage of the platform.”
