A recent review of Crytek’s Crysis 2 confirms what fans have known forever – the long-awaited sequel is primed to pwn and own the FPS genre.
According to Destructoid’s Hamza “CTZ” Aziz, Crysis 2 “basically takes all the good things” from the multiplayer experiences of Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2, while adding Nanosuit abilities and a tricked-out engine for a “holy matrimony” of awesome.
“CryTek took the elements that made the other FPS games worth playing long after release and it’s all backed by the powerhouse CryTek 3 Engine,” explained Aziz.
“Here you have something with longevity, both in the gameplay and in the graphics.”
For example, Aziz noted that New York “shines in high def visuals” across 12 maps.
“Some maps will see you running on rooftops, others at street level and some will be a mix that offers some awesome vertical gameplay.
“I was impressed with how little wasted space there seemed to be as most of the buildings on the map could be entered.”
However, Aziz – who officially reviewed Crysis 2 – acknowledged that he was “slightly concerned about the controls” for console versions of the game.
“[They] felt looser than I would have preferred for a console FPS. [Yes], PC gamers will in all likelihood be fine, [although] console players though might take some getting used to things.”
Aziz also pointed out the limitations of Crysis 2 multiplayer, which is currently set at a maximum of 12 players.
“[Sure], 16 players is always the sweet spot for me, but there was rarely a dull moment with 12 players so it’s not all bad.”

Yeah, I know some of you prefer a different genre, say one that is represented by Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – but November 2011 is a hell of a long time to wait.
So, I guess I’ll keep myself occupied in the meantime with some good ol’ Crysis 2 FPS action!
At least it’ll be good practice, getting those hand-eye reflexes back into shape.
