Google TV root bounty set at $1,000

Yes, we all know how fun and downright satisfying rooting a Google TV device would be. But how about getting paid a sweet $1,000 for the privilege?

So, if you think you are up to the challenge, head over to MagicAndroidApps for a complete list of rules and regs.

Basically, the device must be hacked before Mountain View debuts its third-party app development support Google TV units.

In addition, the software-based procedure must allow end-users to install third-party apps.

However, partial consideration – to the tune of a cool $500 – will be given for other methods that involve hardware hacks, such as:

  •
Reprogramming via JTAG or serial console access.
  • Reprogramming FLASH memory chips using a FLASH programmer.

Oh, and don’t forget to include a YouTube video of Better Terminal Emulator Pro running on the Google TV device during the hack.

MagicAndroidApps will then attempt to replicate the rooting procedure on either the Sony NSZ-1 Blue-Ray DVD Player with Google TV, or the Logitech Revue.

If successfully verified, payment will be remitted via PayPal.
