iPhone app gives sex offenders no place to hide

Houston, Texas – A new iPhone application allows US users to check for nearby sex offenders anywhere in the US.

Using the database of the sex offenders register – which is freely available – POM Offender Locator uses the iPhone’s GPS facility to pinpoint the user’s location and then gives a map of the area showing the address of convicted sex offenders. Tapping any one of these brings up the person’s photograph, address, date of birth and list of convictions.

Users can also type in a street address anywhere in the US to gain the same information.

Developed by ThinAir Wireless, Offender Locator even provides updates about offenders moving in or out of the area through a high speed Interactive Voice Response system.

“Knowledge equals safety. They know where you and your family are,” says the company. “Now it’s time to turn the tables so that you know where they live and can make better decisions about where to allow your kids to play.”
