International merger between Micron, Nanya and Inotera expected soon

Boise (ID) and Taipei (Taiwan) – According to an Inotera executive, Taiwan’s government will soon be receiving a joint bailout proposal from US-based Micron Technology, Taiwan-based Nanya Technology and the joint Micron/Nanya Inotera Memories corporation. The consolidation will bring the three DRAM competitors into a single entity which, according to DigiTimes, will be submitted to Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) before January 26, 2009.

If approved, the merger will represent a necessary step previously cited (and here) by the Taiwanese government for any bailout efforts to succeed – namely that DRAM-related intellectual property be transferred to Taiwan’s DRAM industry players directly – without which, any bailout efforts would be futile.

The companies are looking strongly to consolidate and merge and are only submitting one bailout plan to the Taiwanese government.
