Beijing (China) – Intel has been honored by the China Corporate Citizenship Forum, who recently presented two awards to Intel China Ltd. for “outstanding contributions toward the country’s earthquake relief efforts and for corporate citizenship and responsibility.”
On May 8, 2008, “The Wenchuan earthquake” struck China resulting in a wide response effort involving Intel, the Red Cross and their related employees who, collectively, donated nearly US$7.5 million ($453K of which came from Intel, the rest from Red Cross).
Intel China, after learning that the local Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) website would be inaccessible due to increase Internet traffic, donated $146K for a new server and network equipment. This made the website fully operational within days after the earthquake.
