SCi to cancel 14 games and lay off 200

Montreal (ON) – Video game publisher SCi Entertainment Group has announced that it is going to cut 25% of its workforce and put a halt to 14 of its pending projects.

“To get SCi on track we have to act rapidly and effect change quickly,” said the company’s CEO Phil Rogers.  He also detailed a three-pronged approach to changing the firm – change to organizational structure, a product improvement plan, and “considerable cost reduction.”

As part of the restructuring, SCi said it will cut its workforce from around 1000 people to 800.  Additionally, the board decided to can 14 projects that it said would not create a worthwhile return on investment.

“I am confident our staff share this vision and excitement for the future, and determination to build a working environment where our innovation and creativity can be commercially realized,” said Rogers.

SCi is the parent company of US-based Eidos, which publishes the Tomb Raider series of games.  The company is also known for Hitman and Deus Ex.
