Computer security vendor at DHS under scrutiny

Congressional investigators are charging that a contractor failed to protect Homeland Security Department computer networks against hackers, then tried to cover up its failures. “The department is the victim not only of cyber attacks initiated by foreign entities, but of incompetent and possibly illegal activity by the contractor charged with maintaining security on its networks,” Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, wrote to Homeland Security Inspector General Richard Skinner on Sept. 21.
