Los Angeles (CA) – Got an empty inkjet cartridge, but don’t want to spend a lot of money to refill it? You may be in luck because drugstore chain Walgrees will be offering free black or color cartridge refills tomorrow. Canon and Epson owners, however, are out of luck.
Customers will need to bring in a coupon from either a local newspaper or from the Walgreen’s website. Here is a link to a sample advertisement page for the local store in Los Angeles Calfornia.
According to Walgreens, more than 3000 stores will offer the free refills. Walgreens stores have offered cartridge refills since last summer, charging $10 for black cartridges and $15 for color ones. These prices are much lower than comparable brand-name cartridges from the printer manufacturers and indeed Hewlett Packard takes a very dim view of the whole thing.
HP has set up a website called “The Truth About Ink Refills and Remanufactured Ink” and specifically lists Walgreens as a provider of what it calls “risky” refilled ink cartridges. HP claims off-brand refills produce smudged pages and also say that one in four remanufactured cartridges are dead on arrival.
If any of you bring your ink jet cartridges to Walgreens tomorrow, we would love to hear from you.
