Google rolls out Gmail mobile phone app

Mountain View (CA) – Addicts of Google’s free Gmail email service can now grab their emails from their mobile phones and PDAs. Google is release a new Java application that directly hooks into Gmail. The application works with over one hundred popular phones including many from Blackberry and Samsung.

The Gmail application is downloadable by visiting through your mobile phone’s web browser. After installation, most phones will have an extra icon that will call up Gmail directly. The service is free, but the user will still need to pay typical airtime or data charges.

Gmail has always been available through a web browser or integrated email programs, but this is the first time mobile users will be able to directly launch the service.
