Palm has announced a new version of its “GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition.” The device, an add-on to Treo smartphones, is now offered in combination with TomTom’s Navigator 6 software. The GPS kit includes a wireless, Bluetooth-based GPS receiver, a memory card that comes with the navigation application and a map of the continental U.S., a cradle with a suction cup to attach the Treo to the windshield as well as a power adapter for the phone and GPS receiver.
Basic functionality of the navigation package includes voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions and the common set of points of interest, including gas stations, restaurants, parks and airports.
The new version of the GPS package supports Treo 650, 700w and 700p devices and is offered for $300. People who don’t care which version of the navigation software they use with their GPS Treo can still save $50: At the time of this writing, Palm still offered the preceding TomTom Navigator 5 version for $250 through its online store.
