Ultra-Wideband and USB: Q&A with Calvin Harrison of Freescale

The marriage of Ultra-Wideband and USB remains a tantalizing vision for the communications industry, although perhaps a marriage made in hell as much as in heaven. The IT and communications industries have long regarded Ultra Wideband (UWB) as a technology of great promise but delayed by a battle over an IEEE 802.15.3a standard between, basically, Freescale (and Motorola) on the one hand and Intel on the other. In the case of Intel, the Santa Clara company now leads an industry grouping around the WiMedia Alliance or more accurately, the Multiband OFDM Alliance (MBOA) Alliance.
