Microsoft executive touts Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device platform

With Microsoft’s newly launched Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device Feature Pack, Taiwan-based small-and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) can rapidly venture into the development and production of next-generation networked-media-device (NMD) products such as IP STBs (set-top boxes), digital video recorders and digital media adapters, according to Eddie Wu, Microsoft’s senior director of device solutions sales, Asia and worldwide ODM ecosystems.

The Taiwan-based Tatung, BenQ and Micro-Star International (MSI) have joined up with Microsoft to develop Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device Feature Pack-based products, including IP STBs, Wu stated, noting that Windows CE 5.0 has gained support from more than 30 OEMs and consumer-electronics companies across the globe.
