Via today released the PT890 chipset, which the firm claims is able to run the top performance tier of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system. In combination with a DX9-capable graphics card, the chipset can serve as the foundation of a “Vista Premium” system, the company said.
The PT890 supports all Intel processors up to FSB1066 as well as DDR2 memory. The chipset runs on Via’s 533 MB/s “V-Link” interface, which connects Via Southbridge’s such as the VT8237A. Also integrated are 32-bit/192kHz audio support, up to eight high-speed USB 2.0 ports and 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet.
