Ubisoft has announced that Las Vegas will set the scene for their upcoming Rainbow Six Vegas game. In the game players must rescue Las Vegas from a terrorist threat of, “global proportions.” The game, which will be available on both consoles and PCs, is the fifth in the famous Rainbow Six series that has players hunt terrorists with tactical teams.
The original Rainbow Six game, based on Tom Clancy’s novel of the same name, ushered in the era of the tactical shooter which combines strategic planning with the first person perspective of earlier games. Using authentic weapons and modeling tactics of modern anti-terrorism teams, the game was a hit and spawned other games in the genre, namely Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.
Later this month, Ubisoft is set to roll out Ghost Recond Advanced Warfighter on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 consoles. In that game, players must maneuver their tactical teams through Nicaraguan jungles and even the streets of Mexico City. The development team actually recreated several parts of Mexico from thousands of pictures and hours of video, which gives us a glimpse into the level of detail we may expect from Rainbow Six Vegas.
Rainbow Six Vegas is set to be released in fall 2006 on both game consoles and the PC.
