Core logic company VIA will float an initial public offering on the Taiwanese stock exchange on March 5.
Quoting a VIA executive, The Register reports that the IC company aims to be the world’s largest core chipset supplier. Currently, VIA is No. 10 in the world, but by the end of the year hopes to significantly increase production and to have hired nearly 1000 employees.
The company’s goal is to displace Intel’s chip set business among Taiwan-based motherboard makers, with a focus on the sub-$1000 PC market. VIA plans to broaden its product line to support all x86-based processors, including Rise, IDT, AMD, Intel and Cyrix.
