Infineon Technologies AG, formerly Siemens’ Semiconductor Group, has begun volume production of its 256MB SDRAMs.
The company expects that the SDRAMs will first benefit servers and workstations, but will be incorporated into notebook applications by the year 2000.
The 0.2-micron process SDRAMs are available in speed versions from PC66 to PC133. They will be shipped in 64Mx4, 32Mx8 and 16Mx16 configurations, with a supply voltage of 3.3 volts.
The device is delivered in industry-standard 400mil TSOP54 packages, the same packaging used for the 64MB SDRAMs.
Infineon expects that the 256MB SDRAMs will reach the low $100 range towards the end of 1999 for volume purchases.
