AMS Tech unveils futuristic PC

AMS Tech has introduced a space-saving and power-efficient desktop computer featuring an 550MHz Pentium III processor and a 15″ digital LCD flat panel display.

Measuring 14.75 inches wide by 7.75 inches deep and 16 inches high, the Futura occupies only one-third the desk space of a traditional desktop computer. It features 8.0GB or 14.0GB of Ultra DMA hard drive, 64MB of SDRAM expandable to 256MB, and an ATI 3D Rage LT Pro graphics accelerator with 4MB of SGRAM upgradable to 8MB.

The Futura’s 15″ LCD flat panel XGA TFT display can be rotated for landscape or portrait orientation.

The Futura sports a 3.5″ floppy drive and a 24x CD-ROM drive, and supports an optional 56K V.90 fax modem and 2X DVD-ROM. It has built-in 10/100Base-T Ethernet network interface and two expansion slots, one PCI and the other PCI or ISA.

The Futura supports hardware wavetable synthesis and comes with two internal stereo speakers. Other I/O ports include serial, parallel, game, dual USB, VGA, fast infrared and external PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

The Futura consumes only one fourth the energy of a traditional desktop.

Starting at an estimated street price of $2,795, the Futura carries a 1-year parts and labor warranty and is immediately available through distributors, online resellers, computer superstores and mail order partners.
