Corporations such as Microsoft, Intel, Boeing, SBC Communications, and AT&T were hit hardest on Thursday by the Worm.ExploreZip virus.
Reports estimate that at its most severe, the virus had infected as many as 70,000 computers, across three continents.
By Friday, according to the Antivirus Research Center, companies were beginning to “get a handle on it.”
Researchers found that, once a single PC on a corporate network was infected, the worm could quickly spread to the other computers without using the traditional e-mail replication route. If, while trying to delete files, it discovers another Windows installation, the worm infects the new system as well.
