Rewritable drive burns CDs at FireWire speed

Introduced at MACWORLD Expo in New York this week, the new Que! Fire CD-Rewritable drive uses the FireWire interface.

With an average access time of 120ms, the drives are designed for Apple G3 and PC desktop computers. They will also be compatible with any future FireWire-equipped computers, the company says.

Que! Fire comes in two versions: a 6x4x24x speed model and a 4x4x24x model. Both drives feature 1x through 24x rotational speeds, and can read and write data on CD-R and CD-RW media.

The drives have 2MB of buffer RAM.

The Que! Fire 6x4x24x sells for $399, and the 4x4x24x model sells for $299 . Availability is scheduled for August.
