Compaq Presario goes back-to-school

In preparation for back-to-school computer shoppers, Compaq has announced sweeping price reductions and rebates – including a $400 mail-in Internet service rebate from CompuServe.

Beginning July 25, a three-piece Presario Internet PC bundle (including printer, monitor and PC) is priced at $299 after rebates. In addition, stand-alone Presario Internet PCs have been reduced to as low as $499.

The new prices reflect cuts of up to 20 percent on the newest Presario desktop models. For example, the Presario 5304 – now priced at $499 – includes 64MB of memory, a 4.3GB hard drive and a 56K ITU V.90 modem. The Presario 5714 has been reduced to $999, featuring Home Phoneline Networking for shared Internet access, a 1.5Mb Max Digital DSL/56K modem for ultra fast Internet access, and a 10Mbps Ethernet Port, for adding a cable or DSL modem for high-speed communications and Internet access.

Compaq also announced that it will participate in CompuServe’s “iSAVE” Internet rebate promotion. iSave provides a limited-time $400 mail-in rebate from CompuServe to new Presario PC customers when they sign up for a three-year CompuServe 2000 Premier subscription at the monthly rate of $21.95, or full pre-payment of $790.20.
