USB line mixes and matches PCs, Macs

Asante Technologies is rolling out a new line of USB connectivity devices aimed at mixed-computer platform environments.

The new FriendlyNet USB hub products include a 7-port USB hub, a multi-function USB station, USB-to-serial and -parallel converters, and USB home network products, all of which will be introduced within the next 90 days. The company is also announcing a new 4-port USB hub, which is available immediately.

The products will enable customers to easily connect their Macs and PCs to Ethernet networks or a variety of peripherals such as printers, scanners and modems without inserting a network card. This removes the potential for system conflicts, such as those common with IRQ addresses.

The Asante USB hub with built-in Ethernet adapter is now available for $49. The 7-port USB hub, the USB-to-Ethernet converter, and the USB-to-serial adapter will ship next month, with pricing to be announced at that time.
