Dell to offer PCs with free Web access

Dell Computer plans to offer a $959 PC with a year’s free Internet service.

The new Dell home PC offer includes a year’s worth of access to the company’s Dellnet Internet service for U.S. customers.

The package deal is designed to compete with offers of subsidized “free” PCs that often exclude key PC components like monitors, or require a 3-year Internet service contract.

The new Dell PCs come with an 400MHz Celeron, a keyboard, monitor, Microsoft Windows 98 and Works application software, a 3-year warranty and online technical support, and a range of Internet services.
