Smart and Friendly unveils first 12x CD-RW

Smart and Friendly has introduced what it claims is the world’s first 12x CD-recorder with CD-RW rewritability.

The CD Rocket Mach 12 features unprecedented 12x write, 4x rewrite and 32x playback speeds.

Also included is a software suite of eight top-selling applications, featuring Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4 Deluxe. The program allows users to create audio and backup CDs, access music on the Internet, fine tune music tracks, enhance photos and videos, and create personalized CD labels. Together, customers will be able to create a full 650MB CD in as little as six minutes.

The product puts the Chatsworth, Calif.-based Smart and Friendly, which introduced the first 8x CD-recorder in November 1997, two generations ahead of the competition, company officials said.

The CD Rocket Mach 12 is priced at $399 and will be available in early fourth quarter, 1999. Both the internal and external versions feature an Ultra SCSI Plug-and-Play PCI host adapter for easy integration into Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. External models will be priced at $499.
