IBM PC first to offer DVI

IBM has announced a new Aptiva S Series PC which the company claims is the first to contain an integrated port for the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) graphics specification.

The company says the Aptiva’s onboard DVI support will deliver improved image quality and stability, crisp characters and accurate color rendering when attached to an analog or digital monitor.

DVI provides greater graphics bandwidth, improved signal quality and hot-swap capability, accoring to IBM. Digital flat panel monitor users will benefit most from the interface.

IBM also will incorporate DVI support on several of its PCs and monitors announcing later this year, including PC 300 commercial systems, IntelliStation workstation, P Series CRT monitors, and T Series flat panel TFT monitors.
